Currie Chieftains

Currie Chieftains continue to defy logic with high League Finishes and continual Development of Players.

Having the accolade of being the first team to use Coach Logic, away back in 2012, the Currie Chieftains have been through an entire club re-brand since but continue to perform at the top level in Scotland and provide a pathway to professional rugby for many.

With the reputation of a team that punches well-above its weight, the club have achieved notable successes in the past few seasons, impressively achieving an end-of-season play-off place in each of the last four seasons. On top of this, the club have developed numerous players that’ve been awarded professional contracts with Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and the Scotland Sevens side.

The club take a club-wide approach to their video analysis. Matches are filmed by the SRU and then uploaded to the Coach Logic video room.

Coach Logic is a user friendly tool which allows me to analyse both my individual and team performance. The Coach Logic platform allows me to easily create discussions regarding specific game events with the relevant players and coaches. This has helped me improve my ability to review and understand performances and relate them to myself which in turn has greatly helped me develop on the pitch.

Head Coach Ben Cairns and Contact/Defence Coach Mark Cairns will create clips for discussion around main parts from the match. The coaching staff reference their ‘Big Rocks’ and comment on moments that went well and areas for improvement.

Importantly though and in a key differentiation from other Analysis workflows, the players take an active involvement in the Analysis process. Certain Players are assigned different elements of the match to de-construct and discuss.

As an example players will tag and discuss lineouts, scrums, attack play, defence, kicks. With the clips created by the coaching staff, the Coach Logic Activity Feed becomes a hub of information and learning points for players to pick up and develop with. Clips posted are often seen with a thread of replies from various members of the squad, with the majority using their phones or tablets to view and join in the discussion.
