Garage Gyms – Dan Ward Smith
Dan Ward-Smith (DWS) is the Academy Manager at the Inside Running Academy, he is also a qualified Strength and Conditioning coach and has started a weekly blog that will look to give advice to aspiring players and coaches.
DWS has an extensive list of achievements in rugby both as a player and now as a coach. He played professional rugby for 12 years playing for Bristol and London Wasps in the Premiership, he also was part of the English National squad from 2006-11.

It Was All A Dream… – DWS
The Garage Gym is making a massive comeback. Since the 80s gym equipment has sat gathering dust and taking up valuable storage space. 80’s man would buy a multi gym with pec deck and leg extension attachments or a shopping channel gym promoted by Chuck Norris and then use it ‘religiously’ for three weeks before becoming bored and frustrated, it would then sit unused for the next six years before getting sold on at a garage or car boot sale to the next hapless victim.
But in recent years garage gyms and actual training in garage gyms has made a massive comeback, this has been boosted further by the rise of CrossFit and people taking an interest in becoming stronger more athletic human beings. If you are time poor and take your training seriously you don’t want to spend 15mins plus each way getting to the gym, have to wait for a turn on the squat rack, train where you can’t drop weights and then waste another 10 mins getting annoyed by someone who thinks you are at the gym to socialize.
